Doig+Smith, as part of the Brookfield Construction UK Ltd team, has been successful in securing the £840m New South Glasgow Hospitals project - Scotland's largest single NHS hospital building project ever commissioned.

The project comprises a 1,100 bed acute adult hospital, a 240 bed children's hospital, new laboratory facilities, support accommodation and associated landscaping works. The facilities, spanning 170,000m2, will centralise services currently provided by three existing hospitals and will form one of the largest health amenities in Europe. The contract will be in four phases with works commencing immediately and completing in June 2015.

As part of the bid team Doig+Smith worked closely with the Brookfield consortium to provide proactive cost management from the outset to help inform the design and ensure the design was driven through cost throughout the bid process. Full risk management and life cycle costing services were also provided together with advice in respect of the NEC contract requirements. Full detailed cost plans were prepared for the bid submission in conjunction with the design team and Brookfield's key supply chain partners ensuring cost certainty as the project progresses through the next stages.

"The teamwork during the bid process was exceptional with all members of the Brookfield team rising to the challenge to ensure the cost and design were in harmony throughout. Doig+Smith are looking forward to continuing to work proactively with the team to deliver this fantastic project." Gill Kirkness, Partner

The hospitals and laboratory facilities will be built within the site of the existing Southern General hospital and this project adds to our significant portfolio of major healthcare projects.

"Our success in winning the NSGH as part of the Brookfield team consolidates our experience in healthcare and also allows the business to weather the recession allowing Doig+Smith to move forward with confidence for the future." Tom Allan, Partner
