CONTINUING SUCCESS IN THE HIGH STREET
24 March 2010
The High Street is a difficult place to be doing business at present with the effects of the recession still biting into retailers’ earnings and profits. One Client of Doig+Smith however is bucking the trends with continuing strong sales and growth – Ted Baker, the major international designer brand presses ahead with a store development programme in the UK and abroad which over the last two years has resulted in new stores in Australia, Greece, Taiwan and the USA, while nearer home in the UK seven new stores have opened in London Cheapside, 2 in London Westfield, Belfast, Bristol, Cambridge, Heathrow T5 as well as various store refurbishments.
Doig+Smith are proud to have been involved with Ted Baker in their recent development programme, providing them with surveying and project management support for their fit-out programme in the UK, dealing with statutory consents, Landlord approvals and the application of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
This relationship with Ted Baker stretches back some 10 years and has involved the full range of surveying services including dilapidations advice, party wall matters, pre-acquisition surveys, planning and building regulation approvals, Listed building consents, Landlord consents and lease negotiations. Projects have involved new state of the art commercial developments like the recently opened Westfield centre in London to historic Category A Listed buildings such as the Ted Baker store in the Victorian Arcade, Leeds.
While surveying can rarely be described as exciting, one of the great benefits of working for Ted Baker is that each of their stores are bespoke – no two stores are ever the same. This provides Doig+Smith with exciting challenges to ensure the increasing demands of construction legislation, planning restraints and health and safety matters are fully and properly addressed and are not impediments in the onward advancement Ted Baker.
