Tom Allan

Tom Allan

Tom’s professional experience spans across most sectors of the construction industry with more than 40 years of service mainly with Doig+Smith both in Scotland and London. Tom was responsible for setting up our London office and has helped to develop our Client base in London over a 15 year period. He provides advice on methods of innovative procurement solutions, conditions of contract and specialist knowledge of NEC forms of contract. He has significant experience in advising Clients on frameworks and developing initial stages of projects.

Tom has been instrumental in the front end delivery of major projects throughout the UK with major projects such as the New Queen Elizabeth Hospital Glasgow – £600million, the RBS World Headquarters Gogarburn – £350million and over £1.5billion of commercial and residential projects in London including several new tower developments.

Tom is recognised for his ability to drive projects from a development management and cost management perspective bringing together teams with complimentary skills to realise Clients ambitions.

Alastair Archibald

Alastair is the Director responsible for our London Office.

He oversees the delivery of projects in a range of sectors including commercial, education, healthcare, residential, retail and infrastructure. Alastair has considerable experience in the delivery of projects from inception to completion with a focus on providing value for money for clients, including leading over £350million worth of projects at Gatwick Airport and the £21million extension and upgrade of New Victoria Hospital

In 2004 Alastair moved to London and his sole focus is on rapid expansion of our London office through developing further opportunities within our public and private sector clients and continuing to deliver excellent service.

Stewart enjoys working across all market sectors and his wider experience and knowledge on procurement and successful delivery provides a strong foundation for providing sound strategic advice and mentoring.

Ian is the Director responsible for the Edinburgh and Aberdeen offices.

Ian has tremendous experience across sectors, having been involved in a number of major frameworks including education, retail, prisons and councils He has a particular expertise on working on listed buildings, having worked on high profile projects such as £40million Marischal College and the £10million Assembly Rooms, leading to becoming an Affiliate Member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation. Ian also gained an LLM in Construction Law from the University of Strathclyde. By combining this with over 30 years of experience in the wider construction industry, he specialises in sharing knowledge across sectors and disciplines to the benefit of his clients.

Gill is the Director responsible for Cost Management in the Glasgow office.

Gill has responsibility for the commercial management of projects for a wide range of clients and her sector experience is comprehensive including offices, education, laboratories, healthcare, rail, industrial and airports. Gill has particular expertise in strategic procurement selection, risk and value engineering, change control and the NEC form of Contract.

Gill’s focus on technical delivery and strong management ensures predicted monitored outcomes that deliver an excellent quality of service to her clients, leading to extensive repeat business.

Gill is also responsible for leading our Corporate Social Responsibility including our charitable connections.

Fraser McQuarrie

Fraser is the Director responsible for Doig+Smith’s Project Management Division.

Fraser shows great leadership qualities, as well as working productively within a team environment. He has strong experience of leading teams on challenging, large and complex projects. Fraser enjoys working collaboratively with clients to develop long-term relationships which deliver excellent outcomes.

With over 16-years’ experience in Project Management, Fraser has successfully delivered projects in a wide variety of sectors such as health, education, retail and commercial for both public and private sector clients including O2, Allied London, National Australia Bank, North Lanarkshire Council, Stirling Council and NHS Lothian and Grampian.

Fraser has held positions of responsibility throughout his career including Service Location Champion (NAB) at EC Harris, Head of Health (Scotland) at Davis Langdon and Regional Manager (Property) at Mott MacDonald. Fraser is a Chartered Project Manager (MRICS) and also successfully achieved an MSc in Construction / Project Management. He has developed Doig+Smith’s Project Management Best Practice in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University.

Douglas Fairley

Douglas, based in our Aberdeen Office is currently leading the major project for the development of new a New Harbour Facility at Nigg Bay in Aberdeen.

Douglas has gained a wide range of knowledge and experience across a broad spectrum of the construction industry including infrastructure, offices, retail, factories, residential and leisure.

He has a particular interest in the briefing process at the early stages of a project, which is essential to delivering a project which meets the Client’s requirements and expectations. Douglas has accrued a significant level of experience on public procurement of designers and contractors on behalf of client bodies with projects of varying scope and complexity with processes continually updated to meet the changing regulations.

His hands-on approach and close team management will ensure a consistently high level of service delivery.

William has gained experience in a number of sectors including Healthcare, Education, Leisure and Retail with project experience including £17million Ayr/Crosshouse Hospitals and £50million worth of works at the Southern General Hospital. He has developed a strong ability for ensuring technical delivery of projects to suit individual Client needs.

James is based in London and is a Director within our vibrant and expanding London office.

James has extensive experience in all sectors of the construction industry and has been responsible for the delivery of our service on many high profile and complex projects across the United Kingdom from supporting the development of initial Development Appraisals through to the successful delivery on site. This includes projects such as the £80milliion North Terminal Extension at Gatwick and the £8million Walnuts Shopping Centre.

He is passionate about ensuring the delivery of a high quality service to each and every Client with which he works and for playing a key role in all of our Client’s achieving the best possible outcome from any project they undertake.

James also takes great pride in mentoring more junior members of our team and great satisfaction when this leads to their successful progression within Doig+Smith.

David leads our Aberdeen office Cost Management delivery. He has continued his professional development since leaving University, completing a Risk Management Diploma and a Master of Laws. David is also a member of the Institute of Risk Management and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

David has considerable experience across various sectors and in particular in delivering specialist and infrastructure projects such as £80million Grampian Prison, £30million Torry Quay redevelopment as well as various Airport projects. He is currently leading our Cost Management team for the £400million Aberdeen Harbour Expansion Project.

Grant has over 13 years’ experience across various sectors in the UK and Australia, having mostly recently been the team lead for the £650m New Children’s Hospital project in Perth, Australia.

The current suite of projects being delivered at Glasgow Airport includes Runway Resurfacing, New Aircraft Stand, Terminal Remodelling and Consolidated Car Rental to a combined value of over £27million.
