Project Description

The Beatlie School Campus project is the proposed new build development of an innovative, state of the art and sector leading ASN to provide education for pupils aged between 3 and 18 years of age with severe and complex educational needs and profound medical needs.

The new school will deliver educational provision for up to 44 children aged 3 to 18 years comprising 8 Nursery places, 18 Primary places and 18 Secondary places.

The new facility will include the provision of a base and clinical room for visiting services, space to allow training events, as well as appropriate provision of a meeting room. Learning and social spaces will be divided by phase of education – early years, primary and secondary. The new campus will also include a hydrotherapy pool, two general purpose rooms, a life skills area and multi-purpose hall. The NHS Child Development Centre will also be re-located within the School Campus.
Our Role / Scope

Our role in the project is to provide Quantity Surveying services from inception through to completion.

We assisted the Participant in developing an initial affordability cap for the project that would present a suitable challenge to the Supply Chain whilst not compromising the quality of the finished school. This was supported by our extensive knowledge of education projects and the SFT metric.

During Stage 1, we worked alongside the Tier 1 Contractor to develop a detailed cost plan. This was an iterative process and there was a strong collaborative approach across the project team to ensure that the Stage 1 submission reflected the client aspirations and design intent by focusing the allocation of the budget to the key elements of the building. This was reflected in the delivery of a Stage 1 submission within the Affordability Cap despite the current market conditions.

Throughout Stage 2, we will continue to ensure that value management is maintained before moving on to Market Testing where we will undertaking extensive reviews of the package returns to ensure value for money is achieved.

Moving to Construction, our involvement will continue as we carry out monthly valuations, prepare cost reports, attend monthly meetings and manage any change controls from a commercial perspective.
