Project Description
This new build Early Years Centre is part of a portfolio of 4 new Early Years facilities for East Dunbartonshire Council located across East Dunbartonshire.
The Early Years centre is part of the 1140 hours commitment from the Scottish Government.
The works comprised the demolition of the existing primary school and the construction of new build early years facility in Milngavie.
The new build has a range of fantastic facilities, including an internal covered space for indoor and outdoor play, a mezzanine level with access to a chute to the lower floor, and a large garden space.
The external areas of the centre have been landscaped with interesting play equipment installed and parking facilities provided.
Our Role / Scope
Our role on the project was to provide Quantity Surveying and PD services from Strategic Support Partnering Service stage through to Financial Close and subsequent Cost Management services through to completion on site.
Our services post financial close included monthly valuations and cost reports as well as ongoing change management.
This project has been delivered during the COVID-19 pandemic which created a number of obstacles for all involved to overcome including significant delays and the costs associated with such which Doig and Smith were responsible for reviewing and verifying. In addition to the delays caused by the pandemic there were other aspects of the project which resulted in delay and additional costs being incurred including unforeseen ground obstructions and post contract variations.
As Doig and Smith were involved in the delivery of all 4 Early Years Facilities the experience gained on one project was beneficial to the delivery of the others. One example of this would be when design changes occurred on a project which was at a more advanced construction stage than St Joseph’s, these changes allowed Doig and Smith to advise the Client of the costs which may arise should design changes be required on the St Joseph’s project.
Benefits To Client
